As prime consultant for this project, we developed and coordinated a $4,500,000.00 computer room expansion and upgrade project. The project was divided into two phases, where the first phase included a 15,000 square foot data center expansion. The second phase of the project was to provide and install a new Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) system to serve the entire data center, which totaled approximately 60,000 square feet.
In addition to the data center expansion, the project included building-out a 16,000 square foot administration area, which was used to relocate personnel. New work included adding 220 tons of air conditioning, three 750-kVA UPS modules with expansion for a fourth module, three levels of fire detection, and new power distribution units. All power on the computer room was monitored using a central computer system.
Since the expansion and upgrades were for a live mission-critical data center, coordination for the expansion and upgrades required detailed phasing and construction sequencing to insure continuous operation of the facility. Services provided included project scheduling and development of construction procedures, with project supervision for all critical tie-in work.
Control systems included expanding the existing DDC system to provide HVAC control and under-floor leak detection monitoring. A new monitoring system to specifically monitor the power distribution units was located on the raised floor area with the operation of the conditioned power systems.
Value added services included start-up verification, development of operation & maintenance manuals, testing & balancing, owner training, and system commissioning.
