Sys-Tek provided MEP Engineering Design Services for three schools operated by Creative World School, Inc., targeted primarily for pre-school age children and extended care for school age children. Creative World focuses on providing an environment and learning experience that is exciting for children, and its schools are an important part of their success.
Each Creative World School is approximately 12,000 square feet with twelve different classrooms, a food preparation area, and an area called the Exploratorium. The Exploratorium is a large vaulted space where children can learn through exploration and interaction. This area also serves as a common gathering space for parents and their children.
HVAC design included eight, single and twinned commercial natural gas furnace systems with ground mounted condensing units. Temperature control is shared between pairs of classrooms. Each classroom has its own restrooms.
The food preparation area included four sinks and countertop warming equipment. An above floor food and grease trap was customized to meet code requirements and for serviceability. A mechanical space above the food preparation area was built to house the natural gas hot-water heaters, and provide access for all air handling units.
Each design was customized to meet the code requirements for each city. In addition, each design had to be adjusted to meet the specific utility conditions for each site. For instance, some facilities were provided with 120 / 208V power, while others were provided 277 / 480V power. Sys-Tek’s response to these nuances and challenges has resulted in a relationship that has spanned multiple projects.
