Consulting Engineering & Commissioning
Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
sys-tek provided engineering consulting, recommendations, and commissioning on behalf of Target. This was to achieve a Leading Edge Data Center to support their commercial business requirements. To understand business requirements & determine the infrastructure necessary to support those requirements, we attended weekly project meetings with the design team and Target project managers. Business requirements demanded the construction of both a primary and backup Data Center.
Understanding the Owner’s Needs
The project requirements necessitated a phased approach to the overall technology center design. The design therefore dictated that all equipment and systems installed would be expandable in the future without requiring an interruption to normal business operations.
We evaluated alternative uninterruptible power solutions including fuel cell, static, and rotary uninterruptible power systems. We provided test recommendations for factory witness & vendor startup procedures and authored test procedures for system integration testing of electrical, mechanical, security, fire, and control systems.
Defining Benchmarks
We reviewed test procedures performed as part of the equipment acceptance test program. We recommended additional equipment tests to verify published operational specification compliance, quantify performance limits, and establish benchmark data.
We prepared integration testing procedures. System anomalies identified during integration testing required additional testing & evaluation to recognize the problem and help achieve the desired solution within a very limited time schedule. The project schedule demanded the timely completion of all systems commissioning to meet the scheduled migration of data processing and communications equipment including their applications.
Scope of work included startup, acceptance testing, and commissioning services for UPS, stand-by engine generator, HVAC, and mechanical systems including systems acceptance and integration testing.
Scope also included providing consultation on the evaluation and selection of a battery monitoring system to be deployed across the UPS stationary battery plant at each facility. Services included the evaluation of system integration capabilities and an integration with existing Building Monitoring & Control System (BMCS).
