Municipal Utilities
Energy Study Walk Through
Marshall, MO
In 2006, the community owned Marshall Missouri Municipal Utilities utilized sys-tek to perform energy analyses of three of its facilities, as well as facilities for five of its commercial and industrial clients. These facilities included:
- The 150,000 SF case-ready packaging plant for Cargill. Cargill’s goal was to maintain facilities and energy costs at 2005 levels through 2010. Energy analysis focused on lighting fan terminal units, process hydraulic pumps, and a poorly performing chiller plant. Five (5) energy savings opportunities and seven (7) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The 322,000 SF food production and packaging plant for ConAgra. Energy analysis focused on lighting, motors, and refrigeration. Six (6) energy savings opportunities and seven (7) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- Two facilities for the Butterfield Youth Services organization. One 4,000 SF facility included review of geothermal heat pump wells, kitchen equipment, and HVAC systems. It’s 25,000 SF Main Building was very new and had little opportunities for energy improvements. Five (5) energy savings opportunities and eight (8) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The 63,000 SF Fitzgibbon Hospital. Because a large facility addition was planned, energy analysis focused only on existing lighting and HVAC systems. Two (2) energy savings opportunities and seven (7) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The 3,000 SF facility for KMMO Radio Station, focused on lighting, broadcasting equipment, HVAC and emergency power. Two (2) power quality solutions, three (3) energy savings opportunities, and six (6) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The 57.3 MW Power Plant, containing 11 generators and turbines. The focus of the inspection was on lighting and motor efficiency. Three (3) energy savings opportunities and five (5) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The MMU Waste Water Treatment Plant, with focus mainly on lighting, HVAC, and motor efficiencies. Four (4) energy savings opportunities and eight (8) maintenance recommendations were identified.
- The MMU Water Treatment Plant, with focus on lighting, pumps, and HVAC systems. Three (3) energy savings opportunities and seven (7) maintenance recommendations were identified.
At the conclusion of the project, sys-tek met with each client & facility operator to review the observations & recommendations, and to answer any questions they may have. As a result of this project, significant improvements at each facility were implemented.
